The Josui is a chokutō shinai with a consistent width along the 'blade'. The overall feeling when using this shinai is that it is ‘balanced evenly’ over the entire length. The Josui bamboo is available in three different shapes:
1. Josui chi no kata - each slat of madake bamboo is shaved with prominent corners
2. Josui ten no kata - each slat of madake bamboo is shaved to have rounded corners
3. Josui chokuto - each slat of madake bamboo is shaved to a regular or 'orthodox' shape (a balance between prominent corners and rounded corners)
Each of these are premium madake shinai that are made in Japan.
